Popular free online dating site OkCupid expanded into an app which lets users browse profiles, send messages, and seek blind dates with its “crazy blind date” feature. Designed to also be used as a discount site for couples, How About We plans activities for two people, offering discounts of up to 75%. Positing itself as the “offline” dating site, How About We lets users propose a date, which another user can then opt in to. Tinder works because it takes rejection off the table, and taps into a distinctly millennial activity – texting. Popular with younger users – it’s average user is 23 - Tinder users have rated each other’s profiles 4.5 billion times, and have been matched up to 50 million times.
Launched in September 2012, Tinder had an estimated 500,000 users in its first sixth months, with a day-over-day growth rate of 5%. If two users both swipe “yes” to one another, they are then able to text through Tinder’s interface. This free app lets users swipe “no” or “yes” on potential matches.
